At South Perth Physiotherapy, we believe our purpose is this:
Through physiotherapy, targeted exercise, rehabilitation, and our Pilates services; our goal is to help you achieve your goals. Whether it’s to get back to footy, run your first park run, stay mobile and independent as you get older, fix a specific injury, or just to stop things going backwards… we ensure all our work is tailored to help you get where you want to be.
We do this by following these core principles:
We make sure we understand your goals, so we are working with you on the same path to reach your desired destination.
An accurate diagnosis predicts everything that follows. Without an accurate diagnosis, we are starting from the wrong point, so how can we expect to achieve your goals. As primary contact practitioners we take pride in our knowledge and diagnostic ability to ensure you are on the right track.
Unfortunately, so often we hear stories of clients seeing other health professionals who say “they didn’t really do anything. They just talked a lot, gave me a few exercises, or told me it would get better eventually.” While that all may be true for the person, unfortunately it often doesn’t address your most pressing need – you want to feel better as soon as possible. While it’s true that many things will recover well eventually anyway… waiting for that to happen could mean more missed footy games, more days off work (and lost income) more days not being able to pick up your grandkids.
We work to understand your needs and goals and want to help you get there as quickly as possible. The sooner you can get back to doing what you love, the better we are fulfilling our core purpose.
We know that everyone’s goals and problems are different. We also know that you are not just a knee, or a shoulder, or an injury. You are a person, and we ensure we treat you as such. There are sometimes many ways to achieve a similar outcome, and the key is applying the right approach to the right problem to get the best results. Our knowledge and experience means that with the right diagnosis and the right treatment approach, you should be getting better results faster.
We know that there can be a big difference between “ok” and 100%. We also know that without the right rehabilitation, there can be high risks or reinjury or recurrence. We believe we aren’t doing our job if we don’t ensure you have achieved the best level of resilience and conditioning you require to ensure your problem doesn’t come back, or you don’t get hurt again. Injuries happen regardless, but we want to reduce the chances of you having to come back again once you have finished working with us.
Our Clinic Story
Ours is a story of 2 long standing clinics in the South Perth Peninsula – Como Physiotherapy and South Perth Physiotherapy, coming together as a super team.
South Perth Physiotherapy
South Perth Physiotherapy was first started by the late, great Bob Elvey (a grandfather of modern physiotherapy in Australia) and has been operating for over 40 years. Through several pairs of hands, Lauren May and Julian Bowen took over management of South Perth Physiotherapy in 2014 and have been working with the community here ever since. We feel very privileged to be able to follow in the footsteps of the greats, like Bob, and the many leaders in the field that he trained over the years.
Como Physiotherapy was originally started by Peter Rydings, who operated it successfully for many years. Again, after several changes of hands our good friend Charlene Duncan took over the reins, and managed Como Physiotherapy for around 10 years, moving it to our current location.
With a growing family and other commitments, when Charlene decided it was time to move on to her next adventure, Lauren and Julian were happy to take over management and care of our sister clinic in 2018.
In 2021, we finally decided it was time to join our two teams together. We moved both teams (and all our services) over to our current location. The same great therapists, now all working together for the South Perth community. This move has also allowed us to expand our exercise rehabilitation services with the next door gym space.
